After a ride on the motorbike toward Kim Lan Ceramic Village - Kim Lan Ceramic Village, a hidden gem near Hanoi, boasts centuries-old pottery traditions. Nestled along the Red River, it produces exquisite ceramics, from everyday items to fine art. Unlike more famous craft villages, Kim Lan retains its authentic, rustic charm, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship and the opportunity to observe skilled artisans at work in serene surroundings
The first place we visit is the Kim Lan Temple and Pagoga. The pagoda and communal house have been associated with the village for over 1000 years and are being preserved by the villagers. The architecture and design are in accordance with the ancient Northern village architecture when the communal house and pagoda are close to each other with "banyan trees and wells" which have been imprinted in culture through many Vietnamese literary works.
Discover the ancient kiln that has stood for over 70 years in the historic pottery village of Kim Lan, a place that preserves unique cultural values passed down through three generations of pottery artisans. You will have the chance to admire the timeworn kiln, a living witness to the village's history, and listen to heartfelt stories about the family’s craft tradition. Here, you can learn about the manual operation of the kiln, from lighting the fire and controlling the temperature to arranging pottery pieces to ensure the highest quality.
Move to Kim Lan Ceramic Museum - where ceramic works excavated since 2003 are displayed, including broken pieces of bowls, plates, and ceramic jars dating back to the 8th century. Among them is a famous model of an ancient kiln that was completed by a Japanese professor from an 800-year-old ancient kiln. Right opposite the exhibition area is a creative experience area where you can experience making the products you want. Then back to Old Quarter
