Best Places to Enjoy Craft Beer in Hanoi

Booming craft beer culture in Hanoi provides a wonderful combination of local breweries and energetic bars likely to satisfy any beer fan. Here are some of the greatest venues in Hanoi for you on your search for unusual beers and regional tastes:

Pasteur Street Brewing Co. (PSBC)

One of the trailblazing names in Vietnamese craft beer scene is PSBC. Originally launched in 2015 at 144 Pasteur in Ho Chi Minh City, when craft beer was still in its early years, the brand has grown and won many accolades both in Asia and the US. PSBC is steadily present in Vietnam today, having several official sites all over.

Though I have sampled many craft beers, I still rank the Jasmine IPA from PSBC as one of my favorites. Their Salted Lime beer is also a fresh and interesting product that appeals to local palates since it has a unique sweet and sour taste profile with little bitterness, hence it is rather simple to consume.

PSBC runs three prominent venues in Hanoi with both indoor and outdoor seating. Although their food menu was initially quite simple, it has evolved and varied to better suit Vietnamese tastes and includes appealing lunch sets at reasonable pricing alongside specialties.

Hanoi Cider Co.

On Nghi Tam Street, Hanoi Cider Co., is a well-known brand with a focus on cider instead of craft beer. Still, they provide a range of always changing fresh beer choices. Their cuisine is also really good; particularly their chicken and burgers—the burgers here are among our favorites in Hanoi.

Their second site, The Hummingbird, is centered on Tran Quoc Toan Street (Hoan Kiem). Though it still offers a good assortment of the most sought-after craft beers, its new location more resembles a restaurant and cocktail bar concept.

Couples and bigger groups would find this lovely and pleasant ambiance appropriate given occasional live music. One very noteworthy aspect is the first floor children’s play area. For those who want substitutes to beer, they also provide a great selection of mouthwatering drink options (wines, cocktails, ciders, etc.). Unlike many other venues, the Hummingbird has everyday happy hour as well.

Standing Bar

Tucked in the center of Truc Bach, Standing Bar has a perfect position with a breeze-blown balcony view of the lake. Renowned for providing one of the most varied choices of craft beers in Hanoi, it features about 20 distinct varieties imported from all around the nation. For those who are peckish, the menu also features a great range of light nibbles.

The pub presents the “Strictly Vinyl” DJ event every Friday, where spinning vinyl records fill the air with reggae, retro soul, and blues, thereby creating a lively environment that precisely combines modernism with old vibes. For those who enjoy vinahouse music especially, this event has grown to be one of our favorite DJ evenings in Hanoi.

Turtle Lake Brewing Company

Popular among craft beer drinkers, Turtle Lake Brewing Company presents a large indoor and outdoor space just adjacent to West Lake. Over the weekends, the site usually hosts fairs and musical activities.

Their beer choices range from handcrafted ciders and lemonades to American-style IPAs, Stouts, Lagers. Its distance from the city core is the sole drawback; the meal selection may use some more diversity.

The 100 Garden by Furbrew

Established in Hanoi in 2016, Furbrew is among the most well-known names in the craft beer sector of the capital. There are lots of bars and restaurants all across the city carrying their beers. Two Furbrew sites in Hanoi include The 100 Garden and The Box Bar at 8B/52 To Ngoc Van.

The large outside area known as The 100 Garden boasts over thirty different kinds of tap beer. Apart from Furbrew’s own creations, they also have a selection of various local artisan beers. From movie evenings to open mic events and food and music festivals, the space is big enough to accommodate a range of activities. Their cuisine menu has lately grown to include some interesting fresh choices.

7 Bridges Brewing Co.

Launched in April 2017 in Da Nang—the city renowned for its bridges—7 Bridges gained recognition in Vietnam’s craft beer scene right away and won several medals all throughout Asia. Following its original site in Da Nang, they have grown with two more sites in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Nestled on Xuan Dieu Street, the Hanoi branch boasts a patio outside that views West Lake. Along with highlighting 7 Bridges’ own beers, its beer menu features a selection of craft beers from other nearby companies.

Ibiero

Vietnam’s craft beer scene is not only a playground for global companies; many interesting local breweries have also become visible. Originally launched in late 2016 in Hanoi, Ibiero is among the longest-standing craft beer brands in Vietnam today, presently found at several sites in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Ibiero has created a name for itself with Eastern European styles including lagers and Pilsner variations in addition to creating a range of American-style beers including IPAs. The main Hanoi location is conveniently situated across from Hanoi Railway Station on Le Duan Street.

The Bottle Shop

One name that craft beer drinkers in Tay Ho will definitely know is The Bottle Shop. Though they share the same family as Standing Bar discussed previously, The Bottle Shop merits its own ranking on our list.

True to its name, this venue focuses in bottled and canned beers along with a selection of quality spirits from Vietnamese brands (such gin), although it does not serve draft beer. Often updated to maintain a fresh assortment, their craft beer coolers highlight a great range derived from all throughout Vietnam. Once you have selected your beer from the cooler, you can enjoy it on-site in one of two outdoor spaces—often used for weekend activities.

Their menu now features mouthwatering cuisine created by a Sri Lankan chef recently. Those who are curious in this less-known but yet amazing Vietnamese cuisine should definitely visit! The foods are rather easily available since they have been somewhat changed to suit foreign preferences.
