By Bus or By Car

You can take a bus from Hanoi’s My Dinh Bus Station to Yen Bai for about 150,000 VND per ticket. If you want to drive, take this route: From Hanoi, go toward the Thang Long Bridge and then follow the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway. At Km121+300, get off the road and head toward Yen Bai Bridge. Then drive straight into Yen Bai City. It takes about three to three and a half hours to get there.

You could also take the Lang – Hoa Lac route through Thang Long Boulevard, turn onto Highway 21, go through Son Tay, cross the Trung Ha and Phong Chau Bridges, and then merge onto the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway toward Yen Bai.

The trip started with a peaceful walk along the poetic trail that led from Pang Cang Village to Ban Moi Village. A Sau, a lively young Hmong local with bright eyes and an even brighter spirit, led the group on an adventure full of beauty, stories, and quiet wonder.

The first place they went was the beautiful Ancient Tea Garden. The group climbed a soft, rolling hillside lined with old tea trees and found themselves in a lush green area that seemed to breathe with the wind from the mountains. A Sau told heartfelt stories about Hmong traditions and their deep, almost sacred connection to these tea trees, which were gifts from nature long ago.

In the middle of the garden was a tea tree that had been there for hundreds of years. It was surrounded by a beautifully made open courtyard. The people who took care of it put a lot of love into keeping it up, making it a nice place for visitors to be. There was a small wooden pavilion nearby that had great views of the mountains. It was a great place to sit, breathe, and feel the land. If local hosts were there, guests could even drink freshly brewed Shan Tuyet tea, which would have been a sweet, fragrant moment that really made them feel like they were part of Suoi Giang’s culture.

The group stayed in the tea garden for a while before moving on to a place the locals call Heaven’s Gate. The short hike revealed a big change in the scenery. At the top, where they were surrounded by tall peaks, they saw an otherworldly view of Tap Lang Commune. The forest below was covered in a silky mist that floated like a white river under a sky that looked like it had never been touched.

There, A Sau took out a traditional Hmong flute and played a haunting tune that echoed through the mountains. It sounded soft and soulful, as if the peaks were listening. It was a moment that everyone will remember, a gentle reminder of how closely music and nature are connected in Suoi Giang in Yen Bai.

Relaxing in Van Chan Hot Springs

Yen Bai Province is lucky to have natural hot springs, and Van Chan is one of its best. After lunch at their homestay, the group rode 15 kilometers down from Heaven’s Gate to the hot springs of Van Chan, where they could relax in the warm water.

The road gracefully curved around mountains, giving peaceful views at every turn. After 45 minutes, they got to Huong Kim Hot Spring Bath, a popular local spot with everything from private spring rooms to outdoor pools. The cost of entry was between 5,000 and 40,000 VND, and you could ask for swimsuits and other things.

The group chose the outdoor pool, where they jumped into the clear stone basin and swam in the warm water that came from a natural spring. The tiredness from their long trip went away in a matter of minutes. The soft water, the mountain air, and the smell of pine trees nearby made the experience completely new.

Suoi Giang Tea Cultural Space – The Happy Village and the Tea Ancestor Tree

As the sun went down, the group went back to their homestay to get ready. Then they walked to the nearby Suoi Giang Tea Cultural Space – Nahi Village, which is affectionately called “Tea Space.” This privately run center offers a unique cultural experience by combining tea tasting, local food, and traditional performances.

In a small ceremonial room with a glowing charcoal fire, skilled craftsmen showed how to make traditional tea and talked about its history. The soft, lingering notes of a zither filled the air, making the peace even stronger. This unique tea ceremony, which cost 800,000 VND, touched everyone’s hearts in a deep way.

The second floor had a nice café with a view of the valley for people who wanted to relax. Guests could drink red, white, and green teas (80,000–120,000 VND per pot), as well as smoothies and coffee. Each sip went perfectly with the view.

Before dinner, the group went to see the Tea Ancestor Tree across the street. They went through an old wooden gate and down a dusty path lined with beautiful pomu trees and old tea plants.
